50 Years

Words and Music by Jeff Tomberg

50 years, well it ain’t so long when you’ve got a son like me. 50 years, now it’s come and gone but you’ve got a son like me, whoa.I’m funny and smart, cool, with a heart and handsome. I’m the one kid that if we were taken you’d pay ransom. You’re both looking young and you’re still having fun ‘cause you’ve got a son like me.

You tried it before but it ain’t a good score. You’re only batting one for three, whoa! Beth is alright, she’s a little uptight. But Sherry…She likes to claim that we both look the same – I’m not that scary. And I’m not that hairy.

And as you look back on your lives, you’ll do so with much joy. Despite the fact you had two girls, you had a boy.

50 years with the same old spouse but you’ve got a son like me.

50 years since the flame was doused, at least you’ve got a son like me, whoa.

There was love in our house with respect for your spouse. That’s what we saw. You always said there was one reason why – and it was moi. The third of the trois. Also known as Ra*.

And as you look back on your lives just think about us three.

And remember the one thing you both did right – You had me.

The favorite of the three.

Savior of the family.

You’re lucky you had me.

* Ra was the ancient Egyptian Sun God. In this context, it’s a play on the word sun, so think of it as “Son God”.
